The European ethylene Spot Market remained
quiet in the week leading up to June 2. The first half of the day was dominated
by discussions about the June contract price. On May 31, the June European ethylene contract price,
which is a result of an industry agreement, was set at Eur1,160-1,175/mt. This
is a drop of Eur80-82/mt compared to May. Participants
in both European ethylene markets and their derivatives were not surprised by
the drop in European ethylene contract prices, since most sources expected a
decline in June. The expectation of a rebound in demand was
reflected by lower derivative market offers last week. This was even before the
