US spot import prices of polyethylene
terephthalate remained stable during the week ending June 20, despite a
slower-than-normal summer demand. A market
source stated that the summer was disappointing for PET and inventories were
still high. A lot of capacity is expected to start in Asia,
which could push down prices at least for this year. Spot import
PET prices were $1,279/mt 58 cents/lb DDP US West Coast. Pricing indications
ranged from mid-to-high 50 cents/lb up to low 60 cents/lb. Also,
domestic PET prices were flat on the week of June 20, at $1.477/mt. (67
cents/lb). Sources said that some domestic prime PET spot
prices were in the 60-cent/lb area, while contract prices were in the
