Demand slows down as converters prepare for June Increasing importance of competitive import offers

The fundamentals of the European polypropylene market remained broadly balanced in the week leading up to May 22. Import and domestic supply were both tight, which offset the impact of the weak demand. The underlying buyer appetite in the polypropylene market was muted all week. Consumers noted that they continued to be cautious in their procurement, anticipating a quieter summer. A converter explained that "we have capacity, but it won't last in June and in July. So the plan is to adjust production and purchase in early June and in July." It is important to manage capacity, to produce the right volume at the right time, but not to overdo.
