Prices for Asian Paraxylene fell on May 30,
due to a softer demand in China. Asian
paraxylene was down $7/mt for the day, at $977.33/mt. In the last few days, prices of PX have been rising. A trader in China stated that the recent increase in PX
prices is due to the weakening of purified terephthalic acids, or PTA. CFR China PTA was priced at $764-784/mt as of May 30. This
is down from $821-837/mt on May 2. The
trader stated that with PTA prices on the decline, polyester plants are more
inclined to purchase and increase operating rates in China. He said that PTA prices were dropping, which could be a
factor in the return of [PX] numbers. Despite
