The European flat spot MTBE prices fell
June 22, despite buying interest, amid a weakening upstream complex. Flat MTBE FOB ARA prices
fell $19.25/mt to $983.25/mt, above a bid seen during the Market on Close
assessment process, while gasoline prices dropped. However, the MTBE premium over front-month gasoline rose to
$187.50/mt, up $2.50/mt on the day. A
source suggested that material was heading to Europe from the Middle East. Arbitrage from Asia was closed, the source added. The market player also said that gasoline demand was very
healthy and there were no hiccups on the supply side, while demand was firm
compared to the rest of the petrochemicals. With the gasoline-naphtha spread widening, it made more
