Sources said that the Asian polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) market continued to show weakness on May 15, as the peak season of demand is nearing its end. Sources said that a lack of buying interest and increased inventory pressure weighed down on the market, leading to lower prices. A Northeast Asian trader stated that there is little spot discussion and supplies are not moving. Another trader, echoing this view, attributed the lack in trading interest and the build-up of inventory to the lower offers from Northeast Asia as well as Southeast Asia during the week leading up to May 15. Sources said that the polyester yarn and fibre sector trended down on May 15, mainly due to lower sales volumes. The polyester operating rate in China also fell from 92.8% last week...
