Cumene is not attractive as a gasoline blendstock in Southeast Asia / Fire at SCG’s Map Ta Phut Terminal

The Asian benzene price rose by $0.84/mt during the trading session on May 9, amid mixed movements on upstream and downstream market. After falling $1.29/b the previous session, the front-month ICE Brent contract rose $1.83/b at the Asian close of $84.08/b. The C+F Japan mark was up $11/mt for the day, at $678.125/mt. The styrene CFR China mark was down $7/mt from the previous day to $1,138/mt. According to a source on the market, due to the poor demand in Southeast Asia, some producers have been forced to look northwards in South China in search of demand outlets.
