Prices for Asian ethylene fell to $920/mt
CIF Northeast Asia on April 19 and $950/mt CIF Southeast Asia, reflecting a
weak market. A
confirmed deal at $920/mt was heard CFR Northeast Asia. This is $20/mt lower
than the tradable value heard at 940/mt on April 18. The downstream market margins were unhealthy, due to
macroeconomic factors such as high interest rate, volatile upstream price, and
a slower than expected recovery of demand from China's opening. Some participants decided to reduce production of ethylene
based products, such as styrene monmer, due to the continued weak margins on
