China's high inventory levels / Year-end slowdown begins

The prices of acetone and phenol in Asia remained unchanged week-on-week, although increased stockpiles could dampen the mood. CFR China phenol remained unchanged at $890/mt on Dec. 10, while CFR Southeast Asia remained unchanged for the week at $1,000/mt. A trader from Malaysia stated that the pressure on prices stems from an excess inventory in China, especially for phenol. The trader said that the market was still weak and China wanted to push its phenol. A Chinese trader stated that domestic demand in China is still sluggish, with producers struggling to find sufficient buying appetite at home.
