The European market was under pressure
during the week of May 10 as traders reported that Asian import offers
continued to drop. South
Korean sellers were heard in Europe offering GPPS at $1,450/mt CIF ARA
(Eur1,320/mt), or HIPS for $100/mt higher. Vietnam offered $1,280/mt CIF ARA and China under $1,300/mt
CIF ARA. A trader reported that the
quality of polystyrene from Vietnam was excellent, while China remained
unknown. Sources said that the offers were
for cargoes arriving late in May and delivering early in July. The European sellers refused to lower their prices despite
the lower import offer levels. A trader
reported that one producer had carried over the contract and spot price from
April while another had increased upstream...
