Asian polypropylene fell on the Chinese and
Southeast Asian market May 31. The PP Raffia CFR Southeast Asia mark dropped
$25/mt from week to week, down to $910/mt. According to a source in China, the demand for polypropylene
in China is still weak and buyers are waiting to see whether prices will fall
any further. The source stated that the
main reason for the decline in Chinese PP price was due to oversupply caused by
higher operating rates, and low consumer demand. As the supply surplus continues pulling prices down, the
average operating rates of the propane dehydrogenation plant in China have been
around 75% since the week ending May 24. China
