Asian PTA margins show slight improvement / Drop in PX Prices Offers Some Help / Downstream demand is weak

PTA producers are seeing slightly improved margins in China due to lower feedstock costs, but weak downstream demand is still a major deterrent. PTA FOB China was $647/mt Oct. 18, an increase of $7/mt for the day. The PTA FOB China averaged $653.60/mt in the week ending Oct. 18. PTA margins have improved for Chinese producers in the last few weeks, according to one producer. The producer said that "PTA margins have improved, perhaps by around Yuan 30-40/mt." He added that the main reason is the constant drop in PX price over the same time period.
