In Asia, the polybutylene market saw a significant price rise over the past week due to pre-festive demands. On Jan. 15, polybutylene Terephthalate FOB China was up $20/mt from the previous week, at $1040/mt. This is below the lowest price of $1050/mt. A Chinese producer said that prices increased this week because of a shortage in supply. Many factories have already begun preparing for the Lunar New Year holiday. Our company will have to perform maintenance on the production lines during the New Years period. This will result in a lower production. The producer explained that as Spring Festival nears, domestic Chinese customers tend to stockpile products, which results in an increase of orders within China.
