Asian ACN prices fall amid low trade volume / Buyers adopt a cautious stance amid falling Chinese prices / Growing capacity in China exerts downward pressure on prices

Asian acrylonitrile fell by $10/mt on the week of March 4. The CFR Far East Asia, CFR Southeast Asia, and CFR Far East Asia were both at $1,300/mt. Limited trading was conducted as buyers waited to see what happened due to the sharp drop in Chinese domestic prices. Chinese domestic prices fell around Yuan 1,000/mt from week to week, at Yuan 9,100-9100/mt on March 4. According to multiple sources, the sharp decline in Chinese domestic price affected market sentiments. Buyers held a waiting-and-see attitude, expecting further downward trajectory. In a bearish environment, buyer interest usually drops rapidly while sellers refuse to lower their prices, resulting in a standstill, said a producer.
