A broad-based, sharp decline
was observed in Asian benzene markets during the day as participants tried to
stop the oil price slide that was mainly caused by worries about banks. FOB Korea benzene physical
markers fell $36.66/mt on the day to $875.67/mt FOB Korean March 16. Before the session ended, an offer for May-loading FOB Korean
cargo was made at $875-890/mt. The April
benzene naphtha derivative contract (BZN), was last bid at $245-260/mt. This
meant that the wide benzene naphtha spread indicated lucrative margins for
benzene relative to other aromatics products. A paper contract for Maybenzene was also offered at $868/mt
