The
FOB Singapore MTBE prices dropped $1/mt between May 12 and May 15 to $874/mt,
while ICE Brent fell 12 cents/b during the same time period to $74.40/b on May
15. Unipec
offered $873/mt during the Market on Close for 3,000 mt of loading from June
2-6. But no trades took place during the MOC of May
15, and FOB Singapore was assessed at $1/mt more than the fixed price bid on
May 15 at $874/mt. Sources claim that MTBE was scarce in the
Straits because of China's closed arbitrage window, resulting in an unbalanced
marketplace. MTBE shipments from the US and Middle East were
