PX rises $10.66/mt, crude weakens / Domestic China prices go up

On May 30, Asian isomer grade mixed xylene was unchanged from day to day at $952.50/mt, $966.50/mt and $958.50/mt for CFR Unv1, and increased by $2/mt to $958.50/mt for CFR China. Prices upstream and downstream moved in opposite directions. Paraxylene prices rose by $10.66/mt, to $1,057.33/mt, CFR Unv1/China, amid reports of a fire in Brunei at the Hengyi Refinery. Crude oil futures fell on the same day. The 160,000 b/d refinery-petrochemical facility of Chinese refiner Hengyi Industries in Brunei was destroyed by fire on 30 May. Sources in the market said that there was a possibility of a fire at the paraxylene facility, but it could not be verified.
