US Monoethylene Glycol players monitored the depressed
downstream market in the week leading up to May 26. One polyethylene terephthalate supplier said that the demand for US
ethylene derivatives, including MEG, was "really zero". However
producers were running their plants at full capacity to take advantage low
ethane price. Since early April, upstream ethane is hovering at a two-year low. Front-month Mt Belvieu has been hovering around 19-21 cents/gal, down
about 70%, since mid-April. The result has been a longer supply and increased exports to China despite
a seasonally low demand in Asia. The US demand for PET beverage bottles is still not very high, and buyers
are continuing to use...
