Spot PGP Prices Drop May 15-22 / Equistar Chemicals announces a price increase for May

Indicators of increased value continued to drive spot export polypropylene price upwards during the week ending May 22. US-origin materials were increasingly sought after in certain regions. From May 16-22, rail car values for homopolymer polypropylene were in the range of 47-50 cents/lb ($1,135-1,202/mt FAS Houston). After the market closed on May 21, offers for this grade ranged from 50-51 cents/lb (1,202-$1,224/mt FAS Houston). During the week of May 22 at least one PP manufacturer was heard offering material to export, although many producers have reported production problems or turnarounds throughout the second quarter. One source stated that resins in the 40s cents/lb range would be difficult to trade in large volumes.
