Imposition of tariffs increased the price of US importers, which led to a loss of competitive advantage for Chinese magnesium powder on the US market. The demand for magnesium was also lowered by several US customers who sought alternatives. This led to a surplus on the international market. The price decline was a result of Chinese manufacturers being forced to lower prices to sell their surplus. The resumption in production after the Chinese Lunar Year also had an impact on the production of magnesium powder and the trading of it.
