Rise in crude prices barely impacts PX Prices / Downstream buyers are waiting for price reductions from producers

Asian paraxylene fell in price on April 24, despite an upward trend of crude prices. Demand and supply fundamentals were minimally improving. Asian PX was down $2/mt for the day, at $1.045/mt CFR UNV1/China on 24 April. Some traders claim that PX prices are not correlated with the recent movement in crude values. PX spot price has been falling for the majority of the last few days, despite recent gains in crude values. A PTA producer from North Asia attributed the decline to the tepid demand for gasoline blending and the margins on purified terephthalic acids, which have struggled to recover.
