On May 31, the European spot MTBE over
gasoline premium was stable amid low trading activity. Flat MTBE FOB ARA dropped
$13.50/mt to $977/mt in a day, following lower gasoline prices on a quiet MTBE
market. The premium over the front-month gasoline swap remained stable at $187-207/mt. Methanol market participant said that methanol consumption
as MTBE feedstock is healthy, despite the weak demand from downstream
applications such as formaldehyde. Weak
demand in Asia caused MTBE to drop $49/mt per day, to $907/mt F.O.B. Singapore. The gasoline-naphtha front month spread shrank $1.50/mt in a
single day, to $214.75/mt. However, it was still large enough to allow for
favorable blending margins. The ICE Brent
crude futures fell $1.49/b, to $74.76/b. This was due to uncertainty about
