Crude Oil Futures Drop for Second Day / Spot styrene prices remain stable

On June 4, US Gulf Coast benzene prices dropped on the day as oil futures declined for the second day in a row. Spot June DDP benzene was 374 cents/gal USG DDP and assessed June FOB at 379 cents/gal USG FOB, both 16 cents lower on the day. Prices for July were 370 cents/gal DDP and 375 cents/gal FOB. A market participant stated that the recent drop in benzene can be attributed to the large sell-off in the oil and natural gas sector in the last two days. The FOB-DDP premium was unchanged at 5 cents, and the backwardation between front and forward months was at 4 cents. Bids and offers were reported throughout the day.
