Asian mixed-grade isomer xylene was under
pressure on May 9. Markers were down $12/mt from day to day at $941/mt at FOB
Korea, $964/mt at CFR Unv1, as well as 10/mt at $950/mt at CFR China. This was
due to a slowing Chinese market and lower prices for paraxylene. PX prices fell by $18/mt
in a single session on May 9 to $1,022/mt for CFR Unv1/China. The PX-MX
differential narrowed to $81/mt. Spread
was the narrowest since March 14, when it was $71.50/mt. The PX-MX differential is likely to have an impact on the
demand for MX in PX production, as end users typically require a spread of
$100/mt or more to break even. Market
