Chinese domestic prices firm Wow / Arbitrage from Northeast Asia is not active

Asian phenol was $15/mt more than a week ago at $890/mt, CFR China on Jan. 14. This is due to rising crude oil costs, higher benzene prices and the tracking of higher domestic prices within China. East China phenol increased by Yuan 300/mt in a week, to about Yuan 7,850/mt. This is equivalent to approximately $900/mt based on import parity. In Southeast Asia, CFR Phenol was $20/mt more expensive than the previous week, at $1,030/mt. A seller had a tradable indication of $1,000/mt FOS Southeast Asia. Prices rose due to rising feedstock costs. The benzene feedstock market, which is critical for the production of phenol, was $878/mt FOB Korea between Jan. 8-14, with the most recent assessment being $893.83/mt.
