Buyers adopt a cautious stance amid falling Chinese prices / Growing capacity in China exerts downward pressure on prices

The CFR Far East Asia, CFR Southeast Asia, and CFR Asia prices all fell by $10/mt on the week of March 4. Limited trading activity was observed as buyers waited to see what happened due to the sharp drop in Chinese domestic prices. Chinese domestic prices fell around Yuan 1,000/mt from week to week, at Yuan 9,100-9100/mt on March 4. According to multiple sources, the sharp decline in Chinese domestic price affected market sentiments. Buyers held a waiting-and-see attitude, expecting further downward trajectory. In a bearish environment, buyer interest usually drops rapidly while sellers refuse to lower their prices, resulting in a standstill, said a producer.
