The European spot benzene price fell during
the week ending June 2 as the buying interest was low following the settlement
of June contract prices. The 5- to 30-day delivery laycan was
$899.25/mt CIF-ARA, down by 29.25 per day and $57.25/mt in the week since May
26. The industry contract price for June was $964-984/mt.
This is $148/mt less than the contract price in May. In June,
demand was low due to low liquidity on the derivatives markets. The
downstream styrene price ticked upwards on the day due to a contango market
structure moving into July. The 5- to 30-day laycan for forward
loading at $981.50/mt, FOB ARA is up $1/mt from the previous day but down $7/mt
