Asian ABS prices rise due to higher upstream costs / Butadiene, ACN maintain prices / Market participants uncertain about lukewarm Demand

On February 12, the Asian ABS CFR China mark was $1430/mt, up $10/mt since Feb. 5. This is above the buying indications of $1400/mt, but below the selling indications of $1450-1,520/mt due to firming domestic prices. The week saw producers raise their offer levels due to higher upstream and feedstock prices. A Taiwanese producer said that, "From the standpoint of our brand positioning [buying indicators at] $1400/mt are too low for ABS and we won't consider them." Participants on the market expressed concern about ABS prices near-term, citing rising costs and lukewarm consumer demand. The demand is average but the upstream costs are increasing. The same producer said that it remains to be determined whether end-users or factories will absorb the cost increase. The butadiene CFR China indicator was stable...
