Asian Caprolactam Prices Fall amid Lower Trading Indicators / Chinese prices drop as downstream stock of PA6 increases / Far East Asia Market Activity remains Muted

Asian Caprolactam was stable on the spot market in February 27th, at $1.475/mt CFR Far East Asia. Prices dropped on the Chinese domestic market due to a weaker than expected demand from downstream producers of nylon-6 (PA6). Discussions for the east China market prompt were Yuan 10,600-10800/mt as of morning trade. This is down approximately Yuan 400-500/mt compared to the previous week. The recovery post-Lunar New Year was probably a signal of price increases for PA6 downstream. The inventory pressure has only shifted to PA6 from caprolactam. A market source stated that the end-consumer's demand had not improved significantly. Spot cargo discussions outside China were quiet. Buyers showed little interest.
