The European benzene markets slowed, with
little interest in buying June benzene on May 4. The laycan for five to
thirty days ahead delivery was $968.25-988.50/mt CIF-ARA, down by 25 cents
since May 3. This is because a backwardated system has been in place due to the
weakening of the energy complex, and continued thin demand for benzene. The benzene spread over the upstream market naphtha was
wide, as naphtha's prices fell sharply in April due to heavy supply and
weakening demand. The spread was assessed
last at $407.75-427.85/mt on May 3. Styrene
conditions in downstream markets remained weak. However, there was no sign of
interest to sell for loading dates in June. The production margins...
