On May 29, the Asian ethylene assessment
remained unchanged at $820/mt CIF Northeast Asia and $870/mt CIF SE Asia. The market remains bearish
as buyers continue to worry about unhealthy margins due to the poor demand for
products derived from ethylene, such as styrene. Sources attribute the poor demand to macroeconomic factors
such as high interest rate, volatile upstream price and a weaker than expected
recovery of demand from China's opening. In
the week prior, there was a weakness in demand as deals were done at
$770-780/mt CFR Northeast Asia. This is below estimated levels. Some market sources expressed concern about the market's
