Sources said that the Asian naphtha markets saw an increase in activity as participants returned from their holidays in China, Japan, and South Korea. This was due to the thin margins of downstream petrochemicals, which were weighing down on the market. S&P Global Commodity Insights showed that the backwardation structure was slightly narrower as brokers set the Mean of Japan Naphtha Swaps Time Spread for June-July at $9.50/mt during midmorning Asian trading on May 7. This is down by 25 cents/mt compared to the previous session. The CFR Northeast Asia ethylene spread to C+F Japan Naphtha was $179.88/mt, down $9.25/mt from the previous week. This was lower than the usual breakeven spread for integrated producers of $250/mt and $300-$350/mt non-integrated producers. Sources said that India's BPCL sold around 27,000 mt....
