Thermoforms and PET sheets from Asia are
still available at competitive prices on the US West Coast. Some sources stated that offers for
Asia-origin resin are slowing down, due to higher prices elsewhere in
Europe. In thermoforms, however, there is an increasing demand for resin in the
spring berry season. Berries and other produce are commonly packaged
in thermoform PET clamshell containers. Virgin resin is still more
affordable than recycled resin. This could encourage buyers to choose
the least-economically-friendly option, even if they aren't bound by brand or
legislative commitments. PET consumption is closely linked to
economic activity. This has been hindered by rapid inflation and bank
collapses. Sources are not sure what the demand will be for PET bottling in
2023.
