On May 17, US Gulf May spot material was
valued 4 cents more than the previous day due to demand for immediate material. On May 17, a trade for
10,000 barrels of May methanol was done at 88 Cents/gal, which caused the
market to move into a 4-cent reverse. On
the same day, June spot methanol's price was deemed stable. US Census Bureau and US Department of Housing and Urban
Development statistics released on May 17 indicated that the level of housing
construction had increased slightly in April. Housing starts in April were 2,2% higher than the rate of
March, but 22,3% lower than that for April 2022. Methanol is mainly used to make fiberboard for housing
