Chinese domestic market offers rise in the last week



The
Asian market for purified terephthalic acids was slow in the week ending May
19, due to volatile paraxylene upstream prices and weak polyester downstream
demand. Traders cited fewer PTA transactions than usual in the week due to
a rebound in PX feedstock prices. Late in the week, the Chinese domestic
market saw a rise in offers due to some anticipated turnarounds in Northeast
Asia which could last up until June. Several market participants in the
downstream polyester market said that they were unsure about textile demand for
the next few months. A trader in China said that this is the traditional
"lull" season and it's unlikely demand will pick up. Producers
