On March 28, strikes in France continued to
reduce supply, and spot prices rose for the second day in a row. European MTBE spot pricing
was $1,103.25/mt on March 28, an increase of $33/mt over the bid during the
Market on Close process. The primary focus
of the market's attention remained France's industrial action, which reduced
material availability in the sector. Over
the last stages of March, strikes were a constant pressure on the petrochemical
markets across Western Europe. They have also driven some MTBE buyers back to
the market for material. From March 27, to
$263.50/mt, the MTBE premium over front month gasoline swap increased by
