Even stronger crude oil prices were unable
to support the styrene market on May 24. The July ICE Brent contract rose $1.68/b on the
same day to $77.66/b. Upstream benzene fell $2.66/mt on the same day, at
$846.67/mt. East China's domestic market fell further amid
weak demand. The spot market has been affected by the recent
fall in futures prices for styrene monomer, which caused volatility and
weakness this week. A source in China said, "I think that the
market will rebound next week." Sources
estimate that East China's styrene inventories were down by around 9,000 mt
during the week ending May 24. This is a good sign for styrene prices. The
