The Asian methanol markets were quiet on
May 9, due to a lackluster demand for the product and a more than ample supply. The upward momentum on the
Chinese methanol market slowed down May 9, and prices dropped about Yuan
40-50/mt to Yuan 2,340-2350/mt. On May 9,
the front-month ICE Brent crude futures contract fell 38 cents/b in a single
day to $76.04/b by 4:30pm Singapore time (830 GMT). There were very few spot discussions on the Chinese and
Southeast Asian markets for methanol May 9. CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia Methanol were stable for
the day at $277/mt respectively and $345/mt.
