June ICE Brent crude oil at $86.97/b / The downstream market is weighed down by increasing inventories

Prices of Asian paraxylene plunged on April 18 due to a sluggish crude-oil complex and Chinese polymer market. Asian paraxylene prices fell $13.34/mt in one day to $1,056.33/mt at CFR Unv1/China on April 18. Sources said that the crude prices dropped sharply, and this in turn impacted PX spot prices. Data showed that at the Asia close on April 18, June ICE Brent crude oil was valued at $86.97/b. This is down from $90.21/b a day earlier. Sources said that the increasing inventories also put pressure on the polyester downstream markets. A producer from North Asia stated that the polyester market was under a great deal of pressure. A trader from China stated that the current stock of various fibers would last 35 days. This is on the high side....
