Sources say that Asian paraxylene prices rose on April 30 due to an expected tightening in supplies caused by plant closures in Asia. Asian paraxylene prices rose $2.33/mt in one day to $1,038.33/mt at CFR Unv1/China on April 30. Sources said that some PX plants were offline in Asia due to turnarounds. Hanwha Total in South Korea shut down its Daesan paraxylene line, which produces 760,000 mt/year of paraxylene for scheduled maintenance. This shutdown lasted around 60 days. Idemitsu, a Japanese company with a 400,000 mt/year capacity plant, also closed its Chita PX facility from April 20 to June 30.
