- High naphtha costs lead to firm selling indicators- Unhealthy margins in downstream markets make buyers
hesitant

The Asian ethylene market's selling
indications remained stable March 6 with many sellers citing tight supplies
despite higher operating costs at some naphtha -fed steam crackers due to
upcoming turnarounds. Firm selling indications have been reported. The current selling
sentiments can be understood. A trader
from Northeast Asia stated that high naphtha prices will affect producers’
profitability. I doubt that
many producers make profits at this stage, even though the spread
between naphtha/ethylene has begun to recover. "Buyers have been cautious as the margins for producing
derivative downstream products are unhealthy.
