Due
to limited trade activity, Asian ethylene prices remained stable during the
week ended March 10. This was due to hesitant buying signals. Although
there are strong selling indicators, buyers remain cautious. This is because
the margins in the downstream market markets are still weak. Due to
Ramadan holidays, production cuts are expected for downstream products like
styrene monomer. A buyer from northeast Asia stated that the downstream
margins are very bad and that if it continues, productions will be cut even
further. The benchmark C+F Japan Naphtha marker was down $24/mt on the day
and at $680.5/mt as of the March 10 Asian close. The ethylene-naphtha
spread was $279.5/mt. This is higher than the average spread of $250/mt...
