Crude futures settle lower / Benzene market stays muted

US Gulf Coast benzene prices were steady on May 23, despite lower crude oil futures. The downstream spot price of styrene was also stable. spot May DDP benzene at 401 cents/gal DDP USG and May FOB benzene at 406 cents/gal FOB USG. Prices for June were also unchanged, at 395 cents/gal DDP and 400 cents/gal FOB. Ethylbenzene was assessed at 357 Cents/gal DDP in May and 363 Cents/gal DDP in June. The FOB-DDP premium was unchanged at 5 cents, and the backwardation from May to June remained 6 cents. The market was quiet.
