Fewer Chinese offers in the week ending Oct 15 / Weak demand continues in downstream markets

Asian prices for acrylonitrile rose during the week ending Oct. 15. CFR Far East Asia increased $25/mt in a week, to $1185/mt. This was due to China's lack of competitive offers. ACN spot supplies have tightened due to a shortage of Chinese material. This has pushed prices up. ACN producers in the region are receiving more inquiries, particularly from India and Far East Asia. Sources on the market said that end-users' renewed interest in ACN due to low stock levels could boost prices. Some market participants questioned the strength of price increases, given that producers outside China are still facing low demand and negative margins. The current price surge will be short-lived as it lacks substantial support from the market fundamentals, according to a producer.
