- June DDP prices higher than downstream EB and styrene- Market activity tepid on the last day of the calendar
month

US benzene prices moved lower May 31 amid
muted market activity. DDP
for June is 3 cents less at 341 cents/gal. This is below the most competitive
bid of 342 cents/gal. The June DDP price
for benzene is $1,021-1,061/mt. This puts it above the current spot price for
styrene of $990-1010/mt. Early in the
morning, ethylbenzene at $995-1010/mt was being offered. One source suggested
that the offer was not based on the current dynamics of the benzene markets but
was instead a resale by a trading company. The European June contract price settled at 964-984/mt. This
is a discount of $56.61-61.75/mt (or 18.92 cents/gal), compared to the current
US delivered spot price.
