The Asian styrene market declined on May 31
due to weakness in crude oil prices and upstream benzene. As of the Asian close at
0830 GMT, the July ICE Brent contract dropped $2.66/b. Upstream benzene also
fell $15-20/mt. The June-July spread in
the east China domestic market continued to increase. The H1 and H2 laycans for June were assessed at Yuan
7975/mt. Meanwhile, the H1 and H2 laycans for July were assessed at Yuan
7.760/mt. This puts the intermonth difference at Yuan 215. A trader in China commented, "I have heard that
inventory levels for styrene Monomer decreased quite a lot. It's a positive
