Benzene spot market prices continue to be weak in a bearish energy market / Crude futures reach a seven-week low

On April 30, the industry-settled benzene price for May was confirmed at 403 cents/gal, which was unchanged from month to month on May 1. In the meantime, on the spot market, low energy prices continue to put pressure on downstream markets for benzene, with prices falling to 390 cents/gal, DDP, May 1. One to two 3,000mt benzene loads from Latin America were reported to be in demand for shipment to the US Gulf in May. No offer was made for the volume. One source stated that "[there] does not seem to be a lot of interest in moving benzene around here these last few weeks". Spot market offers are also scarce.
