Asian butadiene dropped $10/mt between May 3 and May 6 to $1400/mt CFR China, the lowest price since March 20, 2024 when it was $1390/mt. The spot butadiene market was seen to be declining due to the decline in downstream synthetic rubber operations. Sources on the market said that spot demand was expected to decline in Unv1 as well as South Korea due to lower rubber operations. Market participants are waiting and watching the supply situation. While Asian steam crackers are returning to production after seasonal shutdowns, crackers in South Korea, for example, still use LPG, which reduces the butadiene yield.
