CFR China Mark hits 2-year low | Hanwha Total Energies restarts SM plant on June 15-20

The Asian styrene markets closed lower on
June 13 due to weaker markets upstream. At 0830 GMT the front-month ICE Brent futures contract
dropped 61 cents/b, to $72.52/b. Upstream benzene also fell $5.34/mt, to
$749.33/mt. Styrene CFR China fell $11/mt
in the session, to $894/mt. This is a new two-year low. Last seen at similar levels in January 2021. The physical spread for benzene remained relatively stable,
at $137/mt. On the day, the benzene CFR
China mark was $757/mt. The expectation of
a supply glut in the near term weighed on sentiment. Many market participants are predicting a grim outlook for
the near future, as capacity additions continue in China and South Korea's
