Asian Caprolactam: Prices slip amid weaker upstream, global trade uncertainty / Operating rates to drop in March / High inventory pressures affecting buying interest

Caprolactam in Asia was $10/mt less per week than the previous week, at $1.435/mt CFR Far East Asia (March 13), due to lower benzene and trade uncertainty. A buyer said that caprolactam was tracking recent benzene weakness. The recent global trade uncertainties have severely dampened market confidence. "Downstream is there but the market is not confident," said a buyer. According to one market participant, high inventory levels have pushed buyers to only restock as needed. Participants expect that the March turnaround of several plants will cushion the downside. Another producer said, "Caprolactam has been losing money for a long time.
